Aurora Students Celebrate Graduation With Parade: Video
AURORA, IL — Residents, students and families throughout Aurora put aside their cross-city rivalries Sunday to celebrate graduates of all schools and all levels during a “Unity Car Parade.”
Dozens of cars paraded from East Aurora High School to Philips Park, giving the community a chance to honor the students’ milestone achievements. The parade also gave students the opportunity to cherish their moment in the spotlight, one that was taken away when ceremonies were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Community Advocacy Awareness Network, an Aurora-based nonprofit, organized the parade Sunday, bringing in DJ Reggie “Choppindown” Chandler to provide the soundtrack and volunteers to hand out snow cones, masks, socks and other treats to students and their families. One volunteer even donned a Mickey Mouse costume and danced for families parading by, despite the summer heat.
